On Gear Live: 2024 Nissan Z Nismo Review

American Idol DownloadsBeginning as early as today, you may be able to download both video and audio performances of your favorite contestants from the official American Idol website. Audio performances will be 99 cents, and you can view a complete video performance for a cool $1.99. This is good news for fans, who will understandably regret any missed episodes this close to the finale.

Naturally, it wouldn’t be American Idol without some drama: the show says nothing is certain yet, and the downloadable episodes could be delayed or even scrapped altogether. Of course, what producer would ever miss a chance to make some extra money? We’re betting this will receive a green light.

Rod Stewart IdolIf ya think he’s sexy, and ya want his body… then don’t miss American Idol this week! Grammy Award winner, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member, and all-around musical sensation Rod Stewart will be the guest musician on the popular reality show this week, continuing the show’s tradition of including stars their demographic has never heard of (Just ask your mom, kids! She’ll explain.)

Rod Stewart has produced so many great hits, perhaps it will impossible for the American Idol contestants to give lackluster performances this time around. We hope. This season has had rather blah performances so far, but maybe this musical deity, armed with his Great American Songbook collection, will change that. Here’s hoping!

Queen American IdolThe highlight of this week’s American Idol was the apparent friction between teen heartthrob Ace Young and Queen member Brian May. The friction appeared so confrontational, in fact, that many viewers let Brian May know of their displeasure. And now Brian May is letting the world know that he’s not gonna take it any more.

Brian wrote in his personal blog that the apparent Ace-hatred never happened the way it was shown - it was a result of ‘creative editing.’ He criticizes the way American Idol producers seize anything the least bit negative and blow it out of proportion…while apparently enjoying their evil deeds. Brian also stressed that he and Ace got along great, and that Ace did an excellent job with the song.

Gee, who would have ever guessed that reality TV isn’t…real?

I remembered hearing a long time ago that Baywatch star David Hasselhoff would always try to channel his idol Freddie Mercury in his songs.  But when I actually heard Hasselhoff do his ‘channeling’, I cringed with embarrassment.  I must admit—that same wince came rushing back when I read that the contestants of American Idol would be taking their turn with the songs of QueenIt’s not like we’re watching Rock Star: INXS here.  Would the show produce the cringe-inducing moments that I had feared?  Read on!

Nicknamed The Tiffany Network, CBS has been looking more like Big Lots! of late.  But not last night.  Thanks to CSI and impressive showings for both Survivor and Without a Trace, CBS scored a Thursday prime time ratings’ win, according to Nielsen Media Research.  The Eye Web, yet another nickname for CBS, averaged 25.1 million viewers and a 7.9 ratings/20 share for the evening, among the coveted 18-49 demographic.

Not to worry American Idol fans.  Although CBS won last night overall, Idol remained Numero Uno in the 8-9 time slot.  And Simon’s still crying all the way to the vault.

Lisa Tucker EliminatedWell after my umpteenth try I finally got it right:  Lisa Tucker was voted out just like I had predicted.  But what did surprise me was that Katharine McPhee was in the Bottom Three!!  I already knew that Ace would be there.  Simon was impressed by her singing yesterday, but apparently changed his opinion upon further review.  He told Katherine that her performance wasn’t nearly as good as Aguilera’s.  Hmm… I feel like I’ve heard that somewhere before.  Oh that’s right.  That’s because I said it!

Idol Top 10Have the years gone by so fast that we can already do songs from the 21st century?  Maybe it’s still too soon to say whether or not this was a memorable era for music.  Based on the tunes chosen this week, we can only pray for the four years left to come.
